100 Tons of Aid for Balkan Flood Relief Departing from Toronto Next Week

The humanitarian organization 28. Jun will send over 100 tons of aid to Serbia from Toronto next week for flood relief. The most urgent material will be transported by airplane with less urgent supplies going by ship. It is just over half of the humanitarian supplies 28. Jun collected with the other 100 tons being stored in Chicago and scheduled to depart in the following weeks. The total value of the aid which includes donations from Gatorade, Target, Walmart, Huggies, Shoppers Drug Mart, Rexall and Loblaws has been independently appraised at around $1.5 mil.

The goods will be received by the Serbian Red Cross and the Serbian Ministry of Health, both of whom 28. Jun has worked with in the past. 28. Jun members in Serbia will assist with the distribution of the aid to ensure help is delivered to those who need it most. More funds are needed to help pay for the transportation of the aid remaining in Chicago, so please donate generously on www.28jun.org or via PayPal 28jun.org@gmail.com

A press conference about the shipment of the supplies from Toronto will be held on Tuesday, June 24th at 2:00 PM EST at:

28. Jun closer to sending plane with 100 tons of aid

Another $33,000 is needed to transport $1.5 million worth of aid, including donated items from Gatorade, Target, Walmart and more

TORONTO, ON (June 10, 2014) – The current Balkan state of emergency due to massive, unprecedented flooding and landslides has sprung American and Canadian Serbs into action. More than 200 tons of humanitarian aid, valued at over $1.5 million, is now ready to ship to partners at the Red Cross of Serbia to distribute to the thousands of flood victims in need of food, clothing and hygiene products. An airline which specializes in the transportation of cargo, has offered to fly 100 tons of the most urgent aid directly into Belgrade at a highly discounted rate of $100,000.

Humanitarian not-for-profit organization, 28. Jun, collected $67,000 in donations since announcing the call to action last week. Another $33,000 is needed to get the plane in the air. The 28. Jun gathered product donations from the public as well as brands including Gatorade, Target, Walmart and Huggies and Canadian brands including Shoppers Drug Mart, Rexall and Loblaw’s. The 28. Jun and the Red Cross of Serbia are working together to provide humanitarian aid to the flood victims of Serbia and Bosnia.

"We know that in times like these, an average person is not able to donate $1,000 but they are more likely able to donate in material aid or services," said Filip Filipi, president of the organization 28. Jun. "Additionally, corporate donors are more likely to donate goods. This is why our organization initially focused on collecting donated material aid." This type of initiative proved to be successful. More than 200 tons of aid valued at $1.5 million has been donated. "Now, our focus is now to collect monetary funds to be able to transport the aid to those in need," Filipi concluded. The 28. Jun has been in regular contact with the Red Cross of Serbia to ensure the first 100 tons of aid contains the most crucial items.

The remaining aid, classified as non-urgent, will be shipped by boat at a later date. Together with Red Cross of Serbia, the organization has arranged volunteers in the effected areas to distribute the aid to those in need. "We urge those in the United States and Canada to donate so we get this important plane in the air and we urge those in Serbia to help distribute the aid once it gets there," Filipi said. "We cannot do this alone. This is a team effort." Donations can be made via Paypal at www.28jun.org. For more details regarding this humanitarian effort, visit www.28jun.org.

CHICAGO, IL (May 31, 2014) – The current Balkan state of emergency due to the massive, unprecedented flooding and landslides has sprung American and Canadian Serbs into action. Over 100 tons of humanitarian aid, valued at over $1.5 million, is now ready for partners at the Serbian Red Cross to distribute to the thousands of flood victims in need of food, clothing and general hygiene products.

"Food, medical supplies and hygiene products are in desperate need on the ground and a shipment of this quantity would help immensely," said Ljubomir Miladinovic, head of International Relations Department at the Red Cross of Serbia.
